Regular Season Round 22: Ezerunas-Karys - Petrochema 84-78

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Ezerunas-Karys as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Perlas-MRU) loss. Ezerunas-Karys defeated 3rd ranked Petrochema in Moletai 84-78. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Petrochema won third quarter 18-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Petrochema was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Evaldas Baniulis (201-87, college: S.Carolina) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 7 rebounds. Swingman Gintautas Matulis (196-86) contributed with 20 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Forward Henrikas Vorotnikovas (203-90) replied with 20 points and point guard Tadas Sebeziovas (185-85) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Petrochema. Four Petrochema players scored in double figures. Petrochema's coach Kestutis Narusevicius rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Perlas-MRU. Petrochema at the other side keeps the third place with eight games lost. They share the position with Suduva-Mantinga and Trakai. Petrochema will play next round against Silute trying to get back on the winning streak. Ezerunas-Karys will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Zalgiris II at Kaunas.
