Regular Season Round 11: Steaua CSM - Gaz Metan 88-90

Date: December 14, 2014
Steaua CSM (9-1) recorded its first loss in Bucuresti on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by eighth ranked Gaz Metan (5-5) 90-88. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Steaua CSM. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Strangely Steaua CSM outrebounded Gaz Metan 36-22 including 21 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Belarusian-Russian Aliaksandr Pustahvar (202-85) who scored 29 points. Serbian point guard Niksa Nikolic (195-91, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 17 points and 6 assists. American power forward Travis Watson (203-81, college: Virginia) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and the former international Titus Nicoara (202-88, agency: Interperformances) added 20 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Steaua CSM's coach Niksa Bavcevic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gaz Metan moved-up to sixth place, which they share with BC Timisoara and Oradea. Steaua CSM at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Gaz Metan is looking forward to face Timba Timosoara (#12) in Timisoara in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Steaua CSM will play on the road against Craiova (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
