Regular Season Round 15: Hamburg - Vechta 92-88

Date: December 21, 2014
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Hamburg and 6th ranked SC Rasta Vechta had identical 8-6 record. This time Hamburg used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Vechta 92-88 on Sunday night. SC Rasta Vechta trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 30-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 88-92 at the end of the game. SC Rasta Vechta was plagued by 36 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American guard Will Barnes (185-88, college: Lee) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 5 assists (went 13 for 13 at the free throw line !!!). Center Michael Wenzl (210-91) helped adding 15 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Vincent Bailey (196-91, college: Lincoln Memorial) with 16 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import point guard Derek Wright (179-86, college: Austin Peay St.) scored 20 points. Four Hamburg and five SC Rasta Vechta players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hamburg (9-6) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Nuernberg and Heidelberg. SC Rasta Vechta at the other side dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Hamburg will face league's second-placed ETB Wohnbau in Essen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. SC Rasta Vechta will play at home against Finke Baskets (#12) and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the BBL just one year after relegation.
