Regular Season Round 58: Miami Heat - Orlando M. 101-102
Date: December 29, 2014
Two Florida-based teams played a game that turned out to be much more entertaining than originally expected. The Miami Heat entered the game as the favorites since they were expected to have a rested Dwayne Wade and the return of Chris Bosh - who missed the past eight games with a calf injury - but instead the Orlando Magic put up a fight from start to finish. The game was quite close and each quarter showed that. Neither period was won by more than four points and in fact, the biggest lead of the game was a 10-point lead for Miami early in the third period. Orlando never stopped fighting throughout the entire game and Nikola Vucevic was one of the big reasons why. Orlando's big man proved to be a force throughout the entire game and even though he spent most of the night paired against Chris Bosh, the Swiss ended up being a factor on both ends of the floor as he finished the game with 26 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Orlando's best player, however, turned out to be Victor Oladipo. The second-year guard made some big shots for the Magic and he played his best when the game was on the line. The former Indiana product scored seven of his 22 points in the final minutes and he capped his night with the final three points of the night, tying the score with a lay-up and converting a free throw with 6.6 seconds left on the clock. The Heat had some good performances from Chris Bosh (20 pts, eight rebounds in his return) and Dwayne Wade (25 pts, six assists) while also having a steady scorer in Danny Granger (21 pts, 6-of-7 from 3PT off the bench) but they failed to show up on the defensive end of the floor. Orlando won the battle on the offensive glass and they also scored more points in the paint, something that proved to be a difference maker in the end. The Magic will host the Detroit Pistons tomorrow as they will try to win a back-to-back before the end of the year while Miami will look to bounce back against the Indiana Pacers on December 31st.
