Regular Season Round 27: Gigantes - Huracanes 89-78

Date: January 3, 2015
We should mention about the upset which took place in Toluca, where higher ranked Huracanes (14-11) lost to twelfth ranked Gigantes (8-17) in a road game 78-89. It looked good early as Huracanes took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Gigantes had a 30-16 second period charge getting the lead and Huracanes were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-89. They outrebounded Huracanes 53-36 including 19 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for American swingman Tim Pickett (192-81, college: Florida St., agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 9 assists. His fellow American import forward John Millsap (198-82, college: UTSA, agency: Interperformances) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. Millsap is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American swingman Ollie Bailey (201-85, college: Oklahoma City) answered with 19 points and 9 rebounds and Nigerian-American power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice) added 17 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Huracanes. Four Gigantes and five Huracanes players scored in double figures. Gigantes maintains twelfth place with 8-17 record. Huracanes lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with 11 games lost. Gigantes will play against higher ranked Correcaminos (#11) in Ciudad Victoria in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Huracanes will play on the road against Pioneros (#3) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
