Regular Season Round 10: Barcelos - Illiabum 85-80

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Barcelos (7-3) beat at home 11th ranked Illiabum (3-7) 85-80 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Illiabum won fourth quarter 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international point guard Nuno Oliveira (186-89) notched 25 points and 7 assists to lead the effort and Montenegrin forward Marko Loncovic (202-91) supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Barcelos players scored in double figures. Even 26 points and 7 rebounds by Angolan forward Sergio Correia (198-85) did not help to save the game for Illiabum. American forward Stephen Nwaukoni (203-91, college: Hofstra) added 9 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Illiabum's coach Ricardo Vasconcelos tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Barcelos maintains third position with 7-3 record having just two points less than leader Benfica. Newly promoted Illiabum dropped to the ninth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Sampaense and Galitos-Tley. Barcelos will meet CAB Madeira (#6) in the next round. Illiabum will play against Ovarense and hope to secure a win.
