Regular Season Round 65: Minnesota T. - Denver N. 101-110

Date: January 5, 2015
Arron Afflalo scored a season-high 34 points to power the Denver Nuggets past the Minnesota Timberwolves, 110-101. Afflalo was clicking on all cylinders, as he made 11 out of his 18 shots. Minnesota took an early 9-2 lead in the contest, but the Nuggets played tough defense in the next couple sequences, forcing three straight turnovers. Denver rallied with a 30-10 run late in the first to secure the lead at the end of the quarter. Shabazz Muhammad took matters in his own hands scoring 11 of his 19 points in the second quarter, but it wasn't enough to take the lead at halftime. The Nuggets were able to take a comfortable lead heading into the locker room, thanks to Afflalo's 20 first half points. Denver dominated the third quarter, making 61 percent of their baskets en route to an 18-point lead heading into the fourth. The Nuggets once again relied on the offensive production of Afflalo, who poured in 11 more points in the third. Minnesota tried to conjure up a comeback late in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 10, but it was too late, as the Nuggets ignited a 5-0 run to stretch the lead back to 15 and ended up winning, 110-101. J.J. Hickson added 16 points and 11 boards for the Nuggets, who are riding a two-game winning streak. Kenneth Faried contributed with 15 points, while rookie big man Jusuf Nurkic pitched in with 14 off the pine. Gorgui Dieng paved the way for Minnesota with a career-high 22 points and 12 rebounds, including three blocks. Andrew Wiggins, the Western conference Rookie of the Month for December, added 20 points and seven rebounds, while Shabazz Muhammad scored 19 of his own. The Denver Nuggets scored their second victory in three nights to improve to 15-20, while the Minnesota Timberwolves drop to 5-28, last in the West. The Nuggets will host the Orlando Magic in their next game on Wednesday, January 7th. On the same night, the Timberwolves will face the Phoenix Suns at home. Courtesy of: vavel.com
