A very interesting game took place in Ashkelon. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 11th ranked Hapoel Kfar Saba (3-9) to eighth ranked Ironi Ashkelon (6-6) 88-85 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hapoel Kfar Saba. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Ironi Ashkelon made 19-of-20 charity shots (95.0 percent) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. The winners were led by forward Wendell McKines (198-88, college: N.Mexico St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and guard Marcus Moore (198-80, college: Washington St., agency: Laszlo Vinko Group) supported him with 23 points. Even a double-double of 25 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists by guard Vernon Teel (193-87, college: Loyola Mary) did not help to save the game for Hapoel Kfar Saba. Center DeAngelo Riley (206-88, college: Azusa Pacific) added 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Hapoel Kfar Saba players scored in double figures. Ironi Ashkelon maintains eighth position with 6-6 record, which they share with Elitzur Yavne. Hapoel Kfar Saba at the other side keeps the eleventh place with nine games lost. Ironi Ashkelon's next round opponent will be higher ranked Hapoel Afula (#3) on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Hapoel Kfar Saba will play against Maccabi Raanana (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
