Regular Season Round 17: Utena - Aistes-LSU 79-51

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Utena. Leader Utena faced 3rd placed Aistes-LSU. Host Utena (17-0) smashed guests from Kaunas (10-7) 79-51. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Aistes-LSU. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 79-51. Utena dominated on the defensive end, holding Aistes-LSU to just 4 points in third quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Aistes-LSU's 24. It was a great shooting night for Utena especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Egle Sulciute (190-85) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. International guard Sandra Linkeviciene (176-82) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Five Utena players scored in double figures. Utena's coach Alfredas Vainauskas felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Neringa Skadaite (179-92) produced 17 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Greta Tamasauskaite (174-91) added 14 points respectively for the guests. Utena have an impressive series of seventeen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 17-0 record. Aistes-LSU at the other side keeps the third position with seven games lost. Utena are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Ruta-Univ. (#8) in Siauliai in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Aistes-LSU will play on the road against Jaunieji Talentai (#7) in Vilnius and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
