Second Stage Round 1: GOCOR-Sozh - Rubon 97-86

An exciting game was played in Gomel. GOCOR-Sozh faced Rubon. Host GOCOR-Sozh (10-1) defeated guests from Vitebsk (7-5) 97-86. The game was mostly controlled by GOCOR-Sozh. Rubon was better in fourth quarter 25-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. GOCOR-Sozh forced 19 Rubon turnovers. They shot the lights out from three nailing 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. 25 personal fouls committed by Rubon helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international point guard Siarhei Charykau (185-82, college: Yakima Valley CC) nailed a double-double by scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists for the winning side and swingman Igor Konyushenko (196-86) accounted for 23 points. Five GOCOR-Sozh players scored in double figures. Yahor Patupchik (191-94) came up with 32 points (made all of his seven free throws) and point guard Ivan Aladko (192-95, agency: Mike Diesel) added 17 points respectively for Rubon in the defeat. Rubon's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. GOCOR-Sozh's next round opponent will be BGU Minsk (#6) on the road which should be theoretically an easy game. Rubon will play against Grodno-93 and hope to win that game.
