Regular Season Round 30: Qingdao E. - Shanghai S. 112-107
Date: January 9, 2015
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Qingdao Eagles (22-7) won against at home 12th ranked Shanghai Sharks (13-17) 112-107. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. It looked good early as Shanghai Sharks took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Qingdao Eagles had a 38-26 second period charge getting the lead and Shanghai Sharks were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 107-112. Qingdao Eagles made 30-of-36 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Shanghai Sharks turnovers. Strangely Shanghai Sharks outrebounded Qingdao Eagles 41-28 including 26 on the defensive glass. 29 personal fouls committed by Shanghai Sharks helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American point guard Justin Dentmon (183-85, college: Washington, agency: Comsport) who led his team to a victory with 42 points (!!!), 6 assists and 5 steals (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Iranian center Hamed Haddadi (218-85) contributed with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Qingdao Eagles players scored in double figures. American power forward Bernard James (208-85, college: Florida St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 44 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 4 blocks and his fellow American import forward Michael Beasley (208-89, college: Kansas St.) added 25 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Shanghai Sharks. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Qingdao Eagles have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 22-7 record having eight points less than leader Liaoning H. Shanghai Sharks at the other side keep the twelfth place with 17 games lost. Qingdao Eagles' next round opponent will be Fujian (#16) in Jinjiang which should be an easy win for them. Shanghai Sharks will play on the road against Jiangsu Dragons (#14) in Nanjing and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
