Sixth ranked Canberra Capitals (7-9) crushed at home 7th ranked West Coast Waves (4-12) by 35 points 87-52, which is the biggest margin this round. It looked good early as West Coast Waves took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Canberra Capitals had a 29-11 second period charge getting the lead and West Coast Waves were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 52-87. Canberra Capitals dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to West Coast Waves' 24. They outrebounded West Coast Waves 48-29 including a 38-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by the former international center Abby Bishop (189-88) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and power forward Samantha Norwood (188-89, college: Stony Brook) supported her with 7 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 15 points by American guard Lindsey Moore (175-91, college: Nebraska) did not help to save the game for West Coast Waves. The former international guard Deanna Smith (179-80) added 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Canberra Capitals maintains sixth position with 7-9 record. West Coast Waves lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 12 games lost. Canberra Capitals will play against higher ranked Sydney Uni Flames (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. West Coast Waves will play against the league's leader Townsville Fire and hope to get back on the winning track.
