Regular Season Round 17: Kibirkstis-VICI - Fortuna 64-79

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Vilnius where 4th placed Kibirkstis-VICI (9-8) was defeated by fifth ranked Fortuna (9-8) 79-64. The game was mostly controlled by Fortuna. Kibirkstis-VICI was better in second period 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Fortuna won last quarter 22-9. They also forced 19 Kibirkstis-VICI turnovers and outrebounded them 45-14 including a 20-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Kibirkstis-VICI was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. International swingman Marina Solopova (180-90) orchestrated the victory by scoring 32 points. International Monika Grigalauskyte (190-92) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 19 rebounds for the winners. Forward Indre Dudenaite (184-88) answered with 12 points and 5 rebounds and guard Egle Sniokaite (175-88) added 13 points and 4 assists in the effort for Kibirkstis-VICI. Five Kibirkstis-VICI players scored in double figures. Kibirkstis-VICI's coach Jurgita Streimikyte rotated ten players saving starting five for next games. Fortuna moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Kibirkstis-VICI. Fortuna will play against league's second-placed Suduva in Marijampole in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kibirkstis-VICI will play on the road against Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
