Regular Season Round 15: Energa Czarni - Polpharma 90-85

No shocking result in a game in Slupsk where seventh ranked Energa Czarni (9-6) defeated 12th ranked Polpharma (4-11) 90-85. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Polpharma was ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 43-36 second half run of Energa Czarni. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Polpharma's 32. Energa Czarni players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for swingman Karol Gruszecki (193-89, college: Texas Arlington) who led the winners and scored 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. American center Callistus Eziukwu (208-85, college: Grand Valley St.) accounted for 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Energa Czarni's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Tony Meier (204-90, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import point guard Anthony Miles (185-89, college: Lamar) added 24 points and 4 assists respectively for Polpharma in the defeat. Four Polpharma players scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Energa Czarni. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Trefl Sopot. Polpharma lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the thirteenth position with 11 games lost. Energa Czarni's next round opponent will be league's leader PGE Turow in Zgorzelec and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Polpharma will play on the road against Stabill Jezioro (#15) in Tarnobrzeg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
