Regular Season Round 23: Khimik - Ferro-ZNTU 106-63

Superleague top team - Khimik (19-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Ferro-ZNTU (8-9) in Yuzhny 106-63. It looked good early as Ferro-ZNTU took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Khimik had a 34-18 second period charge getting the lead and Ferro-ZNTU was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 63-106. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ferro-ZNTU to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Khimik dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Ferro-ZNTU's 28. They outrebounded Ferro-ZNTU 44-29 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Khimik players were unselfish on offense dishing 35 assists comparing to just 20 passes made by Ferro-ZNTU's players. It was a quality performance for American point guard Derek Needham (180-90, college: Fairfield) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 assists. International power forward Maxym Korniyenko (204-87, agency: Beo Basket) accounted for 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Four Khimik players scored in double figures. Forward Maks Adam Konate (200-91) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and forward Yakov Zmitrovich (200-84) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for Ferro-ZNTU in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Khimik have an impressive series of nineteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 19-0 record. Ferro-ZNTU at the other side keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Khimik will play against Mykolaiv (#6) in Mykolaiv in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Ferro-ZNTU will play at home against Hoverla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
