Regular Season Round 11: Vitoria SC - Maia Basket 85-60
Date: January 10, 2015
Very predictable result in Guimaraes where second ranked Vitoria SC (9-2) smashed 7th ranked Maia Basket (4-6) 85-60. The game was mostly controlled by Vitoria SC. Maia Basket was better in fourth quarter 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-20 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Vitoria SC forced 21 Maia Basket turnovers and outrebounded Maia Basket 41-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. American guard Doug Wiggins (185-88, college: Mountain St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 9 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international swingman Jose Silva (194-89) contributed with 18 points for the winners. The former international forward Nuno Marcal (205-75) answered with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds and center Paulo Diamantino (203-85) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Maia Basket. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Vitoria SC. They maintain second place with 9-2 record behind leader Benfica. Maia Basket lost their third game in a row. Maia Basket at the other side dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. Vitoria SC's next round opponent will be Barcelos (#3) at home, which may be the game of the day. Maia Basket will play against Lusitania (#5) in Angra and hope to win that game.
