Regular Season Round 14: Kangoeroes - Houthalen 68-52
Date: January 10, 2015
No shocking result in a game in Boom where fifth ranked Kangoeroes (9-4) defeated 10th ranked Houthalen (3-10) 68-52. It looked good early as Houthalen took an 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Kangoeroes had a 22-6 second period charge getting the lead and Houthalen was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 52-68. Kangoeroes dominated on the defensive end, holding Houthalen to just 6 points in second quarter. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The former international Jasmina Rosseel (175-89, college: Drexel) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international guard Vreny Van Driel (175-88) supported her with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Kangoeroes players scored in double figures. Even 15 points and 6 rebounds by the former international forward Annelies Blommaers (176-83) did not help to save the game for Houthalen. Forward Nathalie Smolders (177-92) added 10 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kangoeroes maintains fifth position with 9-4 record. Houthalen lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with ten games lost. Kangoeroes' next round opponent will be higher ranked Declercq Stortbeton (#3) in Waregem and it may be quite challenging game. Houthalen will play at home against the league's leader Castors Braine (#1) and hope to win that game.
