Regular Season Round 12: Sydney UF - West Coast 80-55
Date: January 10, 2015
Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Sydney Uni Flames (8-7) smashed at home 7th ranked West Coast Waves (4-12) 80-55. The game without a history. Sydney Uni Flames led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to West Coast Waves' 24. Sydney Uni Flames brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The winners were led by American forward Mikaela Ruef (190-90, college: Stanford) who scored that evening 8 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import center Paris Johnson (193-89, college: San Diego St.) supported her with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Even 7 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Cassie Harberts (188-92, college: USC) did not help to save the game for West Coast Waves. The former international guard Deanna Smith (179-80) added 13 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sydney Uni Flames maintains fifth position with 8-7 record. West Coast Waves lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 12 games lost. Sydney Uni Flames will play against higher ranked Bulleen Boomers (#4) in Melbourne in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. West Coast Waves will play at home against the league's leader Townsville Fire and hope to get back on the winning track.
