Penarol Mar del Plata celebrated the first victory in Liga Americas Group A. They knocked down Fuerza Regia in the opener. Giddens stepped up with 18 points and 7 rebounds to pace the Argentinean powerhouse. Penarol fired 27 points in the opening frame and opened a 9-point lead. The Argentinean team stayed in front throughout the second quarter. Penarol arrived at halftime up by 12 points 49:37. Fuerza Regia stopped the rot in the third term. The Mexican team cut the distance at 8-point mark at the final intermission. But Penarol limited their opponents to just 14 points in the fourth quarter and raced to the victory at the end. Gutierrez accounted for 17 points, while Adrian Boccia added 14 points for Penarol. Eugene Phelps responded with 18 points for Fuerza Regia. Demontez Stitt tossed in 14 points in the defeat.
