Regular Season Round 76: Indiana P. - Detroit P. 96-98
Date: January 16, 2015
Andre Drummond's tip of a Brandon Jennings shot with 0.3 seconds left sent the Detroit Pistons to a 98-96 victory tonight over the Indiana Pacers. The victory extends the Pistons' road winning streak to seven games -- the best since 2007. The play capped off a 16-point, 16-rebound night for Drummond, who bounced back from a previous four-game stretch where he averaged 10 points and 7.5 rebounds. Brandon Jennings led the Pistons with 37 points, 19 coming in the third quarter. Drummond set up the winning possession when he drew a disputed offensive foul against Pacers center Roy Hibbert with 23.7 seconds left. Jennings dribbled the clock down to 6 seconds before making his move. He tried a runner off the glass similar to the winner earlier this month at San Antonio. But it came off the glass into the waiting hand of Drummond, who easily tipped it in with 0.3 seconds left. Drummond ran back down the floor in triumph, and after a time-out, the Pacers couldn't get a shot off. The Pistons (15-25) moved to 10-2 since the waiving of Josh Smith three days before Christmas and passed the Pacers (15-26) in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Hibbert led six Pacers in double figures with 14 points. Former Piston Rodney Stuckey finished with nine. With Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy's warning of lineup changes in the air, the Pistons got off to a solid start. Jennings looked to push the pace at every opportunity and Monroe was a presence inside. After grabbing only three offensive rebounds the entire game in Wednesday night's loss at home to the New Orleans Pelicans, the Pistons had four offensive rebounds at the first break in action. A Jonas Jerebko free throw pushed the Pistons lead to 23-14 with 1:14 left in the first quarter, but that's when the Pistons bench put in a dreadful stretch. Fueled by turnovers and Pacers backup shooter Damjan Rudez, the Pacers hit the Pistons with a 29-12 run. Rudez scored eight points in the first half -- two triples -- and the Pistons committed 10 turnovers. D.J. Augustin committed four and Jodie Meeks had three. The Pacers took a 43-35 lead on a Rudez triple with 4:39 left in the second quarter. But Jennings knocked down three triples in the final 3:31 -- including a step-back triple in Solomon Hill's face with 2 seconds left to cut the deficit to 51-49 going into halftime. The Pacers pulled away at the start of the third quarter, taking a 62-51 lead at the 8:55 mark on a Hill triple. But Jennings heated up once again with three triples in a 2-minute span to tie the game at 68. His triple at the 1:19 mark gave the Pistons a 77-74 lead. Courtesy of: arcamax.com
