Penarol Mar del Plata clinched the top position in Liga Americas Group A. Leonardo Gutierrez scored five points late in regulation to propel Penarol past Sao Jose Dos Campos for the third consecutive victory. Sao Jose got to a confident start. The hosts poured in 26 points to take a 10-point lead. But Penarol erased the deficit in the second term. They held the Brazilian opponents to just 9 points to level things up at 35. Penarol pulled ahead in the third term. The Argentinean entered the final stanza up by three points. Sao Jose quickly bounced back and regained the advantage late in regulation. But Leonardo Gutierrez sank five straight points to wrap up their regulation and brought Penarol to the win. He finished with 17 points, while Luciano Massarelli added 11 points for the winners. Andre Laws responded with 19 points for Sao Jose. William Drudi netted 12 points in the loss.
