Regular Season Round 12: Valur - KFI 78-55

Date: January 19, 2015
The game with biggest result difference took place in Reykjavik. Local Valur (5-6) outscored 7th ranked KFI (3-10) 78-55 on Monday night. The game was mostly controlled by Valur. KFI managed to win second period 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They held KFI to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 38.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Valur looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by KFI's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Valur made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a quality performance of forward Illugi Audunsson (196-92) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 blocks and forward Bjarni Gunnarsson (190-95) who added 12 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Five Valur players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was center Birgir Petursson (205-86) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and Serbian swingman Nebojsa Knezevic (196-87) scored 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Valur maintains fifth position with 5-6 record. Loser KFI keeps the seventh place with ten games lost. Valur will again meet at home KFI (#7) in the next round. KFI will have a break next round.
