Regular Season Round 19: Phoenix Hagen - Ratiopharm 96-98

Important game to mention about took place in Hagen. Fifth ranked ratiopharm Ulm (12-7) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 11th ranked Phoenix Hagen (8-11) 98-96 on Friday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Phoenix Hagen. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Phoenix Hagen won third quarter 25-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Phoenix Hagen was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. International Tim Ohlbrecht (210-88) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international point guard Per Guenther (185-88) chipped in 10 points and 8 assists. Four ratiopharm Ulm players scored in double figures. ratiopharm Ulm's coach Thorsten Leibenath used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Todd Brown (196-87, college: Wright St.) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import point guard David Bell (187-81, agency: Three Eye Sports) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. ratiopharm Ulm moved-up to fourth place. Loser Phoenix Hagen keeps the eleventh position with 11 games lost. ratiopharm Ulm will face bottom-ranked Crailsheim Merlins (#18) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Phoenix Hagen will play against Bayern Muenchen (#3) and hope to win that game.
