Rather expected game when 11th ranked Koroivos (4-10) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked AEK Athens (7-7) 76-67. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 19-7. But Koroivos won third quarter 24-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. AEK Athens dominated on the defensive end, holding Koroivos to just 7 points in first quarter. 29 personal fouls committed by Koroivos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. British Pops Mensah-Bonsu (206-83, college: G.Washington) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds. International point guard Ioannis Athineou (194-88, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four AEK Athens players scored in double figures. Spanish center Guillem Rubio (202-82) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and American-Dominican power forward Larry Turner (210-82, college: Tennessee St.) added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Koroivos. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. AEK Athens moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Kolossos and AGOR. Koroivos at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. AEK Athens' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panionios.
