Regular Season Round 16: Steaua CSM - Univ.Cluj 109-98

Liga Nationala top team - Steaua CSM (12-1) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat thirteenth ranked Univ.Cluj (0-15) in Bucuresti 109-98. The game was mostly controlled by Steaua CSM. Univ.Cluj managed to win fourth quarter 30-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bosnian-Serbian guard Goran Ikonic (196-80, agency: BeoExcell) fired 26 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international Titus Nicoara (202-88, agency: Interperformances) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. American point guard DeAndre Mays (188-87, college: Youngstown St.) produced 21 points and his fellow American import guard Brian Burrell (192-84, college: UTPA) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Steaua CSM and four Univ.Cluj players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Steaua CSM have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-1 record. Newly promoted Univ.Cluj still closes the standings with 15 games lost. Steaua CSM will meet league's second-placed Ploiesti on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Univ.Cluj will play against Timba Timosoara (#12) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
