Regular Season Round 87: Detroit P. - Cleveland C. 95-103
Date: January 27, 2015
The Cleveland Cavaliers needed only two of their Big Three to smoke out the undermanned Detroit Pistons, 103-95. Kyrie Irving and LeBron James were fantastic in thumping the Pistons and were the only players in maroon to score in double figures. Irving led the team with 38 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists on 6 three point shots made. His three point basket with just 1:05 remaining in the game put the Cavs up 10 and wrapped up the win which pushed the current streak to 7 games. James was equally fantastic with 32 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists to supplant his point guard in the scoring department. The four-time Most Valuable Player had an injury scare in the tail end of the third quarter when he chased a lay-up of Pistons reserve guard Jodie Meeks and fell crashing into the hardwood. James relayed that he suffered a similar fall in high school which broke his wrist. During the sequence he straightened his hands to break his fall, for suffering the same wrist problem. Luckily, what he felt was just similar to a stinger and he continued playing the rest of the way. 'That is obviously a time of worry, which is the understatement of the year,' Cleveland coach David Blatt commented on the James fall per ESPN. 'In a situation like that, you are just hoping he is OK.' The former European mentor also told reporters after the game that James should be in consideration for the MVP race with the way he has lifted this team from the disappointing start. In the 8 games that the two-time NBA champion has returned to the court after battling knee and back injuries, James has averaged an impressive 30 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. He was phenomenal in the Pistons game as evidenced by his patented breakaway dunks and ferocious defence that even generated some 'MVP chants from the predominantly Pistons crown in the Palace of Auburn Hills. James will look to continue with his steady play by snatching the team's 8th straight win against the Portland Trailblazers on Wednesday night. The undermanned Pistons, which are still reeling from the Brandon Jennings injury, will try to get back on track against the Philadelphia 76ers. Courtesy of: ibtimes.com
