Regular Season Round 90: Cleveland C. - Sacramento K. 101-90

Date: January 30, 2015
The Cleveland Cavaliers are capturing the form that tagged them as championship contenders at the start of the season. After losing 6 straight games, the Cavs have won 9 consecutive games to improve their record to 28-20 just a few games before the All-Star break by winning over the visiting Sacramento Kings, 101-90. The Big Three of Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving and LeBron James were spectacular in this one. James set the tone of the game by making a steal just 5 seconds into the match and punctuated the effort with his patented breakaway dunk. From thereon, the Cavaliers were never threatened thanks to a 16-point first quarter outburst from Love who recorded his 11th double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Irving, who totaled 94 points in the last two games including his magnificent 55-point career high against the Portland Trailblazers, had just 21 points and was efficient from the field with an 8-for-13 shooting including three 3-point baskets. James, who rested for one game due to a sore right wrist, tallied 19 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists. His 5 straight makes in the fourth quarter which included a 3 pointer and a dunk, raised the lead to 21 and put away the game beyond the Kings' reach. The four-time Most Valuable Player also wore a wrist brace in the third quarter which he did not take off for the rest of the game. The King were led by recently named Western Conference All-Star DeMarcus Cousins who had 21 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals but was inefficient on just 5-for-17 shooting. Cousins was chosen by Commission Adam Silver to fill in for the injured Kobe Bryant, who was voter in the by the fans but is relegated to the sidelines after undergoing season-ending surgery on his right shoulder. Rudy Gay also made his contributions with 20 points including a 360-dunk midway the second quarter but the Kings never found their rhythm and fell to 16-29. The Cavaliers are travelling on Saturday to Minnesota in what will be the homecoming of former Timberwolves player Love. The atmosphere in the Target Center is expected to be boisterous after the former 3-point shooting contest winner demanded a trade from the club last summer. Courtesy of: ibtimes.com
