Top ranked Steaua CSM (12-2) recorded its second loss on the court of second ranked Ploiesti on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Ploiesti 85-80. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Steaua CSM. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-21. But Steaua CSM won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American swingman Jonte Flowers (196-85, college: Winona St.) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. American Bill Amis (206-87, college: Hawaii) produced 20 points and 6 rebounds and Croatian guard Pankracije Barac (196-81, agency: Court Side) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains second place with 12-3 record having just -1 point less than leader Steaua CSM. Steaua CSM at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Ploiesti are looking forward to face Timba Timosoara (#12) in Timisoara in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Steaua CSM will play at home against BC Timisoara (#4) and is hoping to win this game.
