Regular Season Round 20: Bayer Giants - Cuxhaven 80-90

There was a minor upset when 14th ranked Bayer Giants (6-14) lost to sixteenth ranked Cuxhaven BasCats (4-16) in Leverkusen 80-90 on Sunday. Bayer Giants were trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 28-17 charge of Cuxhaven BasCats, which allowed them to win the game. American guard Brandon Johnson (183-86, college: San Diego, agency: Haylett Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Swingman Dennis Nawrocki (193-92) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Canadian point guard Willy Manigat (180-87) replied with 16 points and 6 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and forward Ben Spoeler (206-88) added 22 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) in the effort for Bayer Giants. Cuxhaven BasCats moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Ehingen. Bayer Giants at the other side keep the fourteenth position with 14 games lost. Cuxhaven BasCats will face higher ranked Oettinger Rockets Gotha (#4) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
