Twelfth-ranked Macae (8-13) made lots of trouble for fifth ranked Minas (13-8) on Thursday. The visitors from Belo Horizonte managed to secure only two-point victory 87-85. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-16. But Macae won second period 16-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Macae used huge pressure winning it 17-13 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 14-16. Minas forced 27 Macae turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard Robby Collum (185-81, college: W.Michigan) who scored 27 points. The former international power forward Shilton Santos (198-82) chipped in 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Minas' coach Demetrius Ferraciu used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) who recorded 22 points and 5 rebounds and the former international Marcio Dornelles (196-75) added 20 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Minas maintains fifth place with 13-8 record. Macae at the other side keeps the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Minas are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Liga Sorocaba (#16) in Sorocabana in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Macae will play on the road against Palmeiras (#8) in Sao Paulo and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
