NBA
Regular Season Round 97: Oklah.City T. - N.Orleans P. 113-116
Date: February 6, 2015
It went back and forth in the fourth quarter with the intensity of a playoff contest with brilliant play after brilliant play. It was a matchup involving the best of the best - All-Stars Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis battling against each other. Somebody had to lose. Davis made sure it wasn't the Pelicans. He sent up a 30-foot miracle desperation 3-point shot as time expired that helped the Pelicans escape with a 116-113 victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder in front of a stunned sellout crowd 18,203 at the Chesapeake Arena. When Davis saw the shot go in, he sprinted the length of the court with a swarm of Pelicans teammates grabbing him in jubilation. Coach Monty Williams looked up and almost dropped to his knee before composing himself. It was that kind of game - intense, hard-fought and exciting until the end. Westbrook had 48 points, Durant had 27. Tyreke Evans had 27 for the Pelicans. It looked bleak for the Pelicans when Quincy Pondexter fouled Westbrook behind the 3-point line with 1.2 seconds remaining and the Pelicans holding a 113-110 lead. Westbrook made all three free throws before Davis' clinching shot. Ryan Anderson gave the Pelicans a 109-105 lead with 1:10 remaining after Westbrook was called for goal tending. Then Durant answered with a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to one. Then Andre Roberson made a blunder for the Thunder, fouling Anderson behind the 3-point line. Anderson made two of three free throws to give the Pelicans a 111-108 lead. Roberson answered with a driving layup. Evans had a chance to seal the game with 17.8 seconds remaining, but he missed both free throws. Davis led the Pelicans with 41 points, two shy of his career high of 43. He made 15 of 23 shots.
