Regular Season Round 102: Portland TB - LA Lakers 102-86
Date: February 11, 2015
The Portland Trail Blazers head into the All-Star break with the exact same record (36-17) as last season after blitzing the Los Angeles Lakers 102-86 Wednesday night at the Moda Center. Wesley Matthews led the way with 20 points, five rebounds and three assists, making 3 of 7 from long range ahead of his appearance in the Three-Point Contest Saturday. Four-time All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge recorded his 27th double-double of the season and sixth in seven games with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Damian Lillard, who will join Aldridge in Sunday's NBA All-Star game, finished with 15 points and eight assists. Both sat the entire fourth quarter. The Blazers took a 54-46 lead into the half behind 21 points combined from Lillard and Matthews. But for as much talk on Tuesday about staying focused on the final game before the break, it seemed as if Portland's interest waned a bit in the second quarter after pouring in 32 points in the first. That quickly changed as the Blazers blew open the second half with a 23-10 run in the first 6:36 of the third quarter, going up 77-56. Matthews scored 10 points and Aldridge had eight in the third as Portland built a 23-point lead and never looked back. The Blazers have now won three regular season games against the Lakers for the first time since the 1996-97 season, while clinching back-to-back season series victories over Los Angeles for the first time since 1993-94 and 1994-95.
