Regular Season Round 24: Santiago - Pinar del Rio 90-78

Very expected game when 6th ranked Pinar del Rio (8-16) was defeated on the road by second ranked Santiago (18-6) 90-78 on Saturday. The game without a history. Santiago led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Santiago outrebounded Pinar del Rio 28-14 including 19 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Eddy Hechevarria (193-86) who scored 36 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. International forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) who recorded 23 points, 8 assists and 5 steals and international guard Yuniskel Molina (185-93) added 21 points respectively. Pinar del Rio's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Santiago maintains second position with 18-6 record having four points less than leader Capitalinos. Pinar del Rio lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth place with 16 games lost. Santiago will meet league's leader Capitalinos in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pinar del Rio will play against Las Tunas (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
