Regular Season Round 107: Phoenix Suns - Boston C. 110-115
Date: February 23, 2015
In yet another installment of the season-long 'No lead is safe series that is Boston Celtics basketball, the Green team found themselves in nail-biter with Phoenix after leading by as much as 20 points. But the new guy - Isaiah Thomas - delivered big plays in the closing seconds in helping the Celtics snap a two-game losing skid with a 115-110 win over the Suns. Avery Bradley led all scorers with 23 points while Thomas had 21 points and seven assists off the bench. The Suns were led by Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight with 21 and 20 points, respectively. Phoenix had multiple shots at tying the game in the fourth quarter, only to have the Celtics come up with a much-needed defensive stop or a Suns player missed a wide open shot. Down the stretch though, the Celtics were as clutch as we have seen them in a while. With the Celtics leading, 101-100, Thomas - a Phoenix Suns player less than a week ago - converted a four-point play. Moments later, Thomas saved a loose ball from going out of bounds and got it into the hands of a Celtics teammate. Boston didn't score, but at that point killing time was just as good as a basket scored. The down-to-the-wire finish was in stark contrast to how the game played out early on. Boston led most of the first quarter, but didn't really begin to pull away until the second when their lead peaked at 19 points courtesy of several hustle plays by Brandon Bass, who scored 11 of his 18 points in the second. Things continued to look promising for Boston in the third quarter early on, but the Suns closed the quarter with a 24-14 run to make it 89-79 going into the fourth. Phoenix continued to chip away at Boston's lead, only for the Celtics to consistently find ways to not let the lead go which proved the perfect ending to their last extended trip out West this season.
