Regular Season Round 109: Portland TB - San Antonio S. 111-95
Date: February 25, 2015
Both the Portland Trail Blazers and the San Antonio Spurs were mired in losing streaks entering their match-up on Wednesday night. The Blazers snapped theirs with a 111-95 blowout victory while the Spurs continue to struggle losing their fourth consecutive game. Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews burned the Spurs for 31 points and added 5 rebounds and 3 steals to lead his team to their first win post-All Star break. Five other Trail Blazers finished in double-figure scoring in an evening when Portland dished out 25 assists as a team. Damian Lillard had 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, LaMarcus Aldridge had a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds while Nicolas Batum finally had a good game finishing with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists and 2 steals. The missing link for the Spurs was point guard Tony Parker, who missed 7-of-8 shots for measly 2 markers for the game. The veteran French PG also had four turnovers. Tim Duncan had 20 points and 8 rebounds, Danny Green had 17 points and Kawhi Leonard had 14 markers for the Spurs, which allowed the Trail Blazers to shoot over 50% from the field and exactly 50% from behind the three-point line. The Spurs dropped to 34-23 for the season for seventh place in the tough Western Conference. San Antonio is 0-4 since the midseason showcase and are now just two games back the eighth placed Oklahoma City Thunder (32-25), which have won seven in a row. San Antonio has lost to all West teams in this losing skid- to quality teams like Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors and even to a weak team like the Utah Jazz. Portland raced to a 32-16 first quarter lead before San Antonio came back in the second to cut the lead down to one, 51-50 at halftime. The Trail Blazers opened the second half with another rally, grabbing a ten point lead before the start of the fourth and this time stopped the Spurs from coming back to hack out the blowout victory.
