The Cairns Taipans clinched a narrow home win over the Perth Wildcats in the playoffs opener. Perth Wildcats were trailing by 13 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 26-16 charge of Cairns Taipans, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-92, college: Florida) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international power forward Cameron Tragardh (209-83, college: ORU) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) answered with 20 points and the former international point guard Damian Martin (186-84, college: Loyola Mary) added 7 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals in the effort for Perth Wildcats.
