Regular Season Round 112: Dallas M. - Brooklyn N. 94-104
Date: February 28, 2015
In the end, it was a successful trip. The odds were stacked against the Nets in Dallas, but they came up big in the second game of a back-to-back Saturday night, toppling the Mavericks, 104-94, behind Deron Williams' 25 points. The Nets (24-33) finished 3-2 on their road swing following the All-Star break, moving back into the eighth position in the Eastern Conference. It's a six-team race for the seventh and eighth seeds, with the Nets now running on the tenuous inside track. 'This was good. Sometimes the last game of the road trip is the hardest. We've been on the road for like a month now pretty much, Williams said. 'I'm just glad we won. We fought. We hung in there. We bounced back. The Nets haven't played at home since Feb. 6 against the Knicks, taking their extended trip surrounding the trade deadline while Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey's circus pitched its tent at Barclays Center. And after swapping out Kevin Garnett for Thaddeus Young, the Nets have taken on a different identity - becoming more athletic, more up-tempo, more enjoyable to watch. It's a small sample size, but it's encouraging with an upcoming five-game home stretch beginning Monday against the Warriors. 'Now we need to go home and start building something and make a statement at home, coach Lionel Hollins said. Saturday night was their best victory in February, a credit to a rejuvenated Williams and his continued commitment to being aggressive offensively. The point guard's 12 points in the third quarter were really the difference in the game, creating a gap on the scoreboard that the Mavericks (39-22) couldn't recover from. 'He's been more aggressive since the All-Star break, Hollins said of Williams, who hit nine of his 14 shots, having been re-inserted into the starting lineup over the last five games. 'Some nights he makes a lot of shots. Some nights he doesn't. A night after the Nets collapsed in the fourth quarter against the Rockets, they held on and improved to just 6-25 this season against teams with records of .500 or better. The Mavericks, led by Dirk Nowitzki (20 points), cut the deficit to 97-92 in the final minutes, but buckets by Young and Jarrett Jack served as Brooklyn's daggers. 'We had a good trip, Hollins said. 'To close out the road trip with a win here in Dallas, we kept going up in class in opponents and we had a chance to win every game. Courtesy of: nydailynews.com
