Regular Season Round 113: LA Lakers - Oklah.City T. 101-108
Date: March 1, 2015
Thunder big men stepped up in the absence of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 108-101. The largest reason why the Thunder got the win Sunday over the Lakers was the play by three big men. Serge Ibaka finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Enes Kanter, who hasn't taken his foot off the gas since arriving in Oklahoma City, scored 16 points and grabbed 15 boards. Nick Collison, who came off the bench to play 22 good minutes, finished with 12 points and four rebounds. The combination of the three of them turned out to be a nightmare for the Lakers, who had no answer in the interior. As a result, the Thunder won the battle on the glass and were able to score a lot more second and third chance points. The red-hot Westbrook was forced to sit Sunday. He underwent surgery to repair a fractured bone in his face he suffered Friday night against Portland. In his place, D.J. Augustin got the start and was able to show what he is capable of. Augustin played 41 minutes in the win Sunday and was extremely impressive. He finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists, a Westbrook-like stat line. Other players who stepped up included guard Jeremy Lamb, who, while only playing 16 minutes, was efficient. Lamb scored 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including two 3-pointers that helped provide a spark and boost the play of other Thunder players. This was an important game for the Thunder. The nation was waiting to see what they would be capable of without two of the league's best on the floor, and they delivered. Coach Scott Brooks has got to be a little more at ease knowing just because Westbrook and Durant aren't there, it is not the end of the world and his team can still contend and win games when it needs to. Next up for the Thunder, they return to Chesapeake Energy Arena to take on the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday. Courtesy of: ocolly.com
