Regular Season Round 116: Boston C. - Utah Jazz 85-84

A Gordon Hayward step-back jumper put the Jazz ahead of the Celtics, 84-83, with 1.7 seconds left on the clock. It turns out that was too much time left. Out of a timeout, Marcus Smart made a tough inbounds pass to Tyler Zeller under the basket, who caught the ball, collected himself, and laid it up at the buzzer with two defenders on him to give Boston the 85-84 win. The Jazz had clawed back from an eight-point deficit in the final 2:30 of the game after the Hayward jumper, but the Celtics got one final shot - and made it count. It was two of eight points on the night for Zeller, who had little to no reaction after hitting the shot. He added 11 rebounds. While it was Zeller in the end, it was Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder for much of the fourth quarter. Thomas scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to go with the nine he had in the third quarter and finished with 21. Crowder finished with 18 points but played a gritty game throughout. Derrick Favors and Trey Burke led the Jazz with 16 points, while Rudy Gobert scored 10 and grabbed 16 rebounds. Hayward finished with 13 points. Avery Bradley scored the first 11 points of the third quarter for the Celtics, giving Boston a 45-38 lead. But the Jazz would go on to score the next seven and tie things up. That's when Isaiah Thomas scored 14 of the team's final 16 points of the quarter and take a 61-55 lead into the fourth quarter. Boston trailed early in this game, going down seven points with over eight minutes to play in the first quarter. But they quickly got things to within a possession, where it would remain for the majority of the first half. It was plenty of defense and missed shots in the first half however, as the Celtics led with the low score of 34-33. Boston shot just 32.6-percent from the field in the first half, while Utah shot 37.1-percent. But it was a bit of a surprise to see Boston with the lead, as it was the Jazz lining things up for the final shot of the half.
