Second Stage Round 14: Perlas-MRU - Trakai 83-84

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Perlas-MRU (27-10) in Vilnius on Friday night. Hosts were edged by fourth ranked Trakai (23-14) 84-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Perlas-MRU. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-83. Trakai forced 20 Perlas-MRU turnovers and outrebounded them 40-28 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 36 personal fouls committed by Perlas-MRU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Forward Karolis Brusokas (200-91) saved the victory by scoring 23 points and 7 rebounds. Point guard Simonas Lekys (180-93) contributed with 14 points and 4 assists for the winners. Power forward Arnas Kazlauskas (204-76, agency: Court Side) replied with 19 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and swingman Edvinas Seskus (194-95) added 17 points in the effort for Perlas-MRU. Four Perlas-MRU players scored in double figures. Perlas-MRU's coach Mindaugas Sakalauskas tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Trakai moved-up to second place, which they share with Suduva-Mantinga and Ezerunas-Karys. Perlas-MRU at the other side still keeps top position with ten games lost. Trakai is looking forward to face league's second-placed Suduva-Mantinga in Marijampole in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Perlas-MRU will play on the road against Petrochema in Jonava and is hoping to win this game.
