Second Stage Round 14: Ezerunas-Karys - Petrochema 82-87

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Ezerunas-Karys (23-14) against seventh ranked Petrochema (17-20) on Friday night. Host Ezerunas-Karys was defeated by Petrochema in a tough game in Moletai 82-87. It looked good early as Ezerunas-Karys took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Petrochema took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 5 points. They made 25-of-32 charity shots (78.1 percent) during the game. Petrochema outrebounded Ezerunas-Karys 39-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. Swingman Vytautas Pikalavicius (197-90) had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Tadas Sebeziovas (185-85) chipped in 22 points during the contest. Petrochema's coach Kestutis Narusevicius used entire bench in such tough game. Swingman Gintautas Matulis (195-86) responded with 17 points and 6 assists and forward Evaldas Baniulis (201-87, college: S.Carolina) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Petrochema maintains seventh position with 17-20 record, which they share with Rasai. Ezerunas-Karys lost third consecutive game. They keep the second place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Suduva-Mantinga and Trakai. Petrochema will play against league's leader Perlas-MRU in Vilnius in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Ezerunas-Karys will play on the road against Nafta-Uni. in Klaipeda and hopes to get back on the winning track.
