Regular Season Round 119: Minnesota T. - Portland TB 121-113
Date: March 7, 2015
For the second time this season, the Portland Trail Blazers saw a five-game win streak fold in Minnesota following a 121-113 loss to the Timberwolves Saturday night. Minnesota scored 70 points on 64 percent shooting in the second half -- including a 40-point fourth quarter -- to snap Portland's win streak. The Timberwolves also ended the Blazers' string of five straight wins earlier this season with a 90-82 victory on Dec. 10. "We didn't do the job defensively that we needed to do, first and second half," Portland coach Terry Stotts said. "Give credit to Minnesota, they got hot. They made a lot of perimeter jump shots, some were contested, some weren't. We just didn't have the same sense of urgency we had the last couple of games against the elite teams." Portland led by 10 points in the first half, taking a 55-51 lead into the break but couldn't do enough to slow Kevin Martin (29 points), Gary Neal (27 points), Andrew Wiggins (18 points) and the Timberwolves over the final two quarters. Minnesota opened the second half with 10-2 and outscored Portland 16-6 in the first six minutes of the third quarter. They finished with 30 points on 62 percent shooting in the third, getting 10 apiece from Wiggins and Martin. The Blazers entered the final 12 minutes down just 81-77 and sporting a winning record when trailing after three quarters. Arron Afflalo hit a three and Chris Kaman made a pair of free throws as Portland tied the game at 83-83 early in the fourth. Despite 11 straight points from Neal and a pair of big buckets from Martin, the Blazers pulled within four, 106-102, after Robin Lopez lofted a floater in the lane with 1:21 remaining. But Ricky Rubio -- a 28 percent outside shooter -- nailed an unlikely three-pointer from the angle with the shot clock winding down, stretching Minnesota's lead to 109-102 with a minute left. A game after limiting the Dallas Mavericks to a season low 75 points in a win on Thursday, the Blazers (41-20) allowed a season-high 121 points from the Timberwolves, who snapped a five-game losing streak with the win. Damian Lillard scored a game-high 32 points to go with eight assists and seven rebounds and LaMarcus Aldridge had 21 points and eight rebounds. Nicolas Batum added 17 points and seven rebounds. Rubio nearly recorded a triple-double for Minnesota with 13 points, 15 assists and eight rebounds. Courtesy of: oregonlive.com
