Regular Season Round 124: San Antonio S. - Cleveland C. 125-128 OT
Date: March 12, 2015
Kyrie Irving scored a career-high 57 points, including a remarkable 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime, and the Cavaliers beat the San Antonio Spurs 128-125 Thursday. Irving surpassed his previous high of 55 points, also set this season. Irving scored 18 of the Cavs' 21 points during one stretch of the fourth quarter and overtime. The only basket that wasn't his was a 3-pointer by LeBron James, who added another 3-pointer in the final minute of overtime to seal the victory after the Cavs trailed by 10 with three minutes left in regulation. James scored 31 points, including the two huge overtime 3s after struggling against the Spurs' Kawhi Leonard for much of the game. But the night belonged to Irving, who sliced through the Spurs defense on an assortment of drives, spins and jumpers. A 3-pointer by Irving brought the Cavs within 110-107 with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Tony Parker missed a jumper over an outstretched Tristan Thompson, but Kawhi Leonard grabbed the big offensive rebound. Leonard, however, missed both free throws, leaving the Cavs with 3.1 seconds left and one last hope. James inbounded to Irving, who took a dribble and sank the 3-pointer from the wing while falling down to tie the game and force overtime. It was the first time the Cavs had the game tied since early in the second quarter. The victory ended the Spurs' six-game winning streak and was their first March loss since 2013 - which James also handed them as a member of the Miami Heat. The Spurs had won 20 straight March games before Thursday. Prior to his fourth-quarter outburst, Irving also scored 14 consecutive points in the second quarter to keep the Cavs close. Kevin Love scored eight points, but didn't score after the first quarter. He sat the entire fourth before returning for overtime.
