The game in Mayaguez supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Capitanes (4-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Indios (2-3). Capitanes smashed Indios 95-73 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Capitanes. Indios managed to win third quarter 25-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Capitanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Indios' players. American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) nailed 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winning side and the former international swingman David Cortez (190-81) accounted for 23 points. American guard Tyshawn Taylor (191-90, college: Kansas) came up with 12 points and guard Andres Ortiz (191-86) added 12 points respectively for Indios in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Capitanes keep a position of league leader. Loser Indios dropped to the eighth place with three games lost. They share the position with Bayamon and Quebradillas. Capitanes will meet at home league's second-placed Cangrejeros in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Indios will play against Brujos (#11) and hope to secure a win.
