Regular Season Round 134: Toronto R. - New York K. 106-89

Date: March 22, 2015
The cruising NBA team, and not the bumbling local NHL entry, has emerged as the unlikely star attraction in these parts north of the border. The Maple Leafs are a bottom-five mess, but the Raptors continued steaming toward their second consecutive Atlantic Division title on Sunday by easily dispatching the undermanned Knicks, 106-89, at Air Canada Centre. Despite All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry's absence with a back contusion, Toronto improved to 42-28 behind 23 points from DeMar DeRozan and 18 from Tyler Hansbrough. Lance Thomas scored a career-high 24 and former Raptors No.1 overall draft pick Andrea Bargnani added 16 for the Knicks. Derek Fisher's team has dropped three straight over four days to help reestablish its draft-lottery positioning - and a crack at NCAA big men Jahlil Okafor of Duke or Karl-Anthony Towns of Kentucky - with an NBA-worst 14-56 record. 'Every game I played in, I didn't win. Every season didn't end in championships. So it's kind of the tough times and the adversity that in a sense sharpen you for success, Fisher said. 'We're going through our process right now. 'We're redefining who we want to be and what kind of team we want to have. So you have to kind of go through some of these beginning stages, but we'll get there as long as we keep doing the work. With Carmelo Anthony (knee surgery), Jose Calderon (Achilles tendon), Cleanthony Early (ankle) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (wrist) already sidelined, guard Alexey Shved - who had averaged 19 points over his previous eight appearances - suffered what the team termed bruised ribs (X-rays negative) in the second quarter and did not return. Ricky Ledo netted six points in nine minutes after sitting out the first two games of his 10-day contract with the Knicks, who got no closer than six points in the second half. 'Losing bodies and also playing from behind, it's just a tough road, Fisher said. Langston Galloway drives to the basket, finishing with nine points and seven assists. 'We were fighting to give ourselves a chance to win the game tonight, but we just didn't get it done, Thomas said. 'Nobody's looking past our last 12 games, nobody's doing that We've just got to stick to it.
