Regular Season Round 8: Arecibo - Guaynabo 84-81

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Capitanes as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Capitanes edged 11th ranked Mets in Arecibo 84-81. It looked good early as Mets took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Capitanes had a 24-14 second period charge getting the lead and Mets were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-84. Capitanes players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of international forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 9 rebounds and the former international swingman David Cortez (190-81) who added 22 points during the contest. Four Capitanes players scored in double figures. American forward Will Daniels (203-86, college: Rhode Island) responded with 26 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import guard Gaby Belardo (188-89, college: FIU) scored 17 points. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Mets lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with five games lost. They share the position with Guayama and Quebradillas. Mets will play next round against Brujos trying to get back on the winning streak. Capitanes will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Manati at home.
