Second Stage Round 5: Champville - Hoops 78-88

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Champville (8-11) against fourth ranked Hoops Club (4-15) on Wednesday night. Host Champville was defeated by Hoops Club in Dik El Mehdi 88-78. The game was mostly controlled by Hoops Club. Champville was better in third quarter 28-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Champville to just 4 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Champville 43-32 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hoops Club players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American swingman Charron Fisher (193-85, college: Niagara) stepped up and scored 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Tyrone Nelson (206-85, college: N.Mexico St.) chipped in 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four Hoops Club players scored in double figures. The former international forward Bassel Bawji (203-89, college: Tulsa) responded with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds and American forward DeShawn Sims (203-88, college: Michigan) scored 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Champville's coach Ghassan Sarkis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Hoops Club maintains fourth place in A with 4-15 record. Champville at the other side keeps the second position with 11 games lost. Hoops Club will play against higher ranked Tadamon (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Champville will play against the league's leader Sagesse and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
