Regular Season Round 9: Arecibo - Manati 88-85

Important game to mention about took place in Arecibo. First ranked Capitanes (6-2) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 8th ranked Manati (3-5) 88-85 on Thursday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Manati won third quarter 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Capitanes made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. International forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) nailed a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and the former international swingman David Cortez (190-81) accounted for 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. International power forward Ricardo Sanchez (212-87) came up with 26 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Dominique Jones (193-88, college: S.Florida) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively for Manati in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Manati's coach Sergio Hernandez tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Capitanes maintains first place with 6-2 record. Manati at the other side dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Capitanes will play against bottom-ranked Caciques (#12) in Humacao in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Manati will play at home against Brujos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
