Regular Season Round 34: Nevezis - Zalgiris 74-112

Very expected game when 9th ranked Nevezis (7-27) was smashed by second ranked Zalgiris (28-4) in Kedainiai 112-74 on Monday. The game without a history. Zalgiris led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Nevezis' 40 and made 30-of-35 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Nevezis 43-25 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Nevezis was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for international center Arturas Gudaitis (208-93) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his fourteen free throws !!!). Estonian Siim-Sander Vene (201-90) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. American guard Markus Monroe (188-89, college: Wayland Baptist) replied with 21 points and forward Vaidotas Volkus (203-85, college: Redlands CC) added 19 points in the effort for Nevezis. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Zalgiris have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 28-4 record behind leader Lietuvos rytas. Loser Nevezis keeps the ninth place with 27 games lost. Zalgiris will have a break next round. Nevezis will play at home against Neptunas (#3) and hope to win that game.
