Regular Season Round 14: Manati - Coamo 73-53

The most important game in the last round took place in Manati between third ranked Maratonistas (8-6) and tenth ranked Manati (6-7) on Saturday night. Maratonistas were crushed by Manati on the road 53-73. The game was mostly controlled by Manati. Maratonistas managed to win third quarter 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Maratonistas to just 7 points in second quarter. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Manati made 7 blocks. The former international swingman Edwin Ubiles (198-86, college: Siena) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Nigerian-American power forward Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (206-85, college: Maryland) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American-Dominican guard Maurice Carter (183-83, college: Robert Morris) replied with 21 points and naturalized Dominican forward Carlos Martinez (198-70) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Maratonistas. Maratonistas' coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Manati have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to ninth place. Maratonistas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Ponce. Manati are looking forward to face league's second-placed Vaqueros in Bayamon in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Maratonistas will play at home against Caciques and are hoping to win this game.
